Maison Margiela Releases $1,400 USD Trench Coat-Inspired Shorts

By Style

After turning the simple black sweater into a distressed cape, it’s a little surprise that Maison Margiela creative director John Galliano has also given an experimental spin to a standard pair of shorts. The designer’s take on the piece draws inspiration from a classic trench coat, which has informed the belted design and draping silhouette of the sleek all-black bottoms.Buttons line the front of the shorts and form a double-breasted closure to mimic that of a typical trench coat. Like many of Margiela’s pieces, the garment takes on a hand-crafted look through the use of frayed cutouts that are featured along the bottom hem. The back is constructed with an inverted pleat that lends a skirt-like shape, and the piece is then lined with tonal organza throughout for a streamlined finish.Maison Margiela’s Deconstructed Trench-Style Shorts are priced at $1,380 USD and available now at Barney’s webstore. For more from the label, check out its Mélange Bonded Topcoat that features a giant flamingo graphic. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Maison Margiela (@maisonmargiela) on Jul 15, 2019 at 1:42am PDT

Japanese Label Iroquois Puts Comfort First for SS20

By Style

Iroquois has toyed with provocative menswear styling for several seasons, showing no sign of slowing down for Spring/Summer 2020. The Japanese label serves up elegant styles rich with baggy blazers and pooling trousers accented with a host of playful shirts and tees.Plentiful wide trousers set the tone for the collection, anchoring the heavily-patterned shirting and relaxed tailoring that adds a hint of formality to the louche looks. Billowing trench coats and knitwear dramatically alter the already-baggy silhouettes, with layered denim jackets allowing the wearer to channel a washed-out Canadian tuxedo thanks for the raw-hemmed and flared jeans. Neutral beige and black shades keep the flame-emblazoned cardigans and multi-toned pullovers from veering into unwearable territory, though berets and matching ties are available for the sartorially bold. The new collection will hit Iroquois’ Japanese web store early next year.Elsewhere in Japan, WACKO MARIA premiered its pattern-drenched Fall/Winter 2019 lookbook.
